Science Display in the I.T.
On Sunday 11th of November a group of children from St. Edward's N.S. explained how hydraulics and pneumatics work using a fairytale theme.
The experiment was to identify and explore how objects and materials may be moved using trapped liquid pressure (hydraulics) and using trapped air pressure (pneumatics).
For the first experiment we got two syringes and plastic tubing. We attached the tubing to each syringe. When we pushed down plunger A plunger B moved up. The air in the tube moved from A to B.
This is pneumatic pressure.
For the second experiment we got two syringes and plastic tubing. We attached the tubing to each syringe. We put coloured water into syringe A. When we pushed down plunger A plunger B moved up. The water in the tube moved from A to B.
This is hydraulic pressure.
In the story the three Billy Goats Gruff the troll popped out while the goat was trip tropping across the bridge using the science of hydraulics. The prince climbed up the castle walls to rescue Rapunzel and Santa went up and down the chimney using hydraulics and pneumatics.
