Safer Cycling Initiative Wednesday 25th of March.

On Wednesday two cycling instructors came to our school to hold a cycling workshop with 30 pupils from 4th, 5th and 6th classes. Their names were Padraig and Art and they work with the Safer Cycling Initiative.

First of all we were fitted with our helmets. It is very important to wear a helmet when cycling to protect our faces and skulls. Padraig and Art showed us a helmet that had saved a boy in an accident. The helmet was broken but the boy was fine.
They told us to hang the helmets on our bikes when we are finished cycling so that it is with the bike when we go cycling again.
Then we were shown how to measure saddle height on the bike so that we could be in control of our cycling.
We learned how to pull the brakes safely and how to use the gears.
We had to cycle around cones and in and out through cones.
We finished with a slow bicycle race.
